Projects by cycling activists from Kharkiv and Poltava have won the Small Grants Competition

The Small Grants Program for cycling activists’ competition commission has determined this year’s winners. They are the Kharkov NGO project ‘Urban Reforms’ entitled ‘Advocacy, concept and program development of cycling infrastructure in Kharkiv’ and the NGO ‘City Lab’’s project – ‘Poltava cycle’.

There was a high level of competition as the commission received 51 project applications from 25 cities in Ukraine.

In addition to determining the two winning projects, the commission adopted a decision on an additional waiting list of nine project proposals that stand out due to a high level of thought input. The coordinators of the program are willing to help the applicants improve their project proposals and to recommend them to be funded from other sources. These projects are from NGO ‘Alter-Sport’ (Mykolaiv), NGO ‘Community Development Center’ (Bila Tzerkva, Kyiv region), ‘Bukovina Regional Development Agency’ (Chernivtsi), a group ‘We love bike’ (Severodonetsk, Luhansk region), the initiative ‘VeloKolo’ (Colomyya, Ivano-Frankivsk region), the initiative group of cyclists of Dneprodzerzhinsk (Dnepropetrovsk region), the initiative group ‘Cycling Rivne’ (Rivne), NGO ‘City Development Agency’ (Sumy) and the initiative ‘Cherkasky velopatrul’ (Cherkasy).

Program organizers invite the authors of projects that were not selected to use other possibilities for cycling activists, such as; the cities counseling program, ‘Veloforum’ conference, trainings and seminars, as well as high quality information and training materials in Ukrainian. The information about these resources is published the Cycling Information Center website www.velotransport.info.

The small grants program for bicycle activists in 2015-2017 is implemented by NGO ‘Center for Social and Business Initiatives’ and Kyiv Cyclists Association as the ‘Development of bicycle for the benefit of the community’ project with the support of the European Union and the European Federation of Cyclists. The project aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of cycling support policies at both the local and the national levels.
