City of Yevpatoria hosted annual Veloforum conference

On October 11-13, 2012 Crimean city of Evpatoria hosted the Veloforum Conference, an annual international conference on the development of cycling infrastructure and cycling promotion. This year, one of the main themes of the event was cycling tourism as a tool for urban and regional development. The conference was attended by approximately 50 participants representing Ukrainian local authorities, cycling and tourism business, local NGOs from all over Ukraine and representatives of the European Cyclist Federation (Brussels, Belgium) and director of the SRAM Cycling Fund (Chicago, USA).

Participants learned about the experience of local governments in preparing plans for the development of cycling infrastructure (for example, Lviv and Lutsk), preparation and implementation of cycling infrastructure in Crimea, discussed further work on developing the Ukrainian part of the international route Euro-Velo.

Once again, the conference proved that more and more Ukrainian cities are interested in cycling and are actively promiting cycling as both daily transport and recreation. This year Ukrainian ‘newcomers’  in cycling were the cities of Luhansk, Donetsk, Komsomolsk, Myrhorod, Simferopol, Sevastopol.
